To the editor: Let’s stop the insanity: Suppression of the right to vote. Suppression of a safe working environment. Suppression of a living wage. Tax breaks to corporations (do not create jobs). The more money you make, the less you pay in taxes.

When I was a kid, my family and I belonged to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marion. We were all baptized, confirmed and three of us kids were married there. We would sit in pretty much the same pew and everyone else had their “assigned” seats, too. The congregation was made up of a lot of farm families just like ours, and the moms, dads and their kids looking like a row of stair steps, from little ones up to the bigger ones, all sat together.

The calendar turned to April this past week, and we survived any attempts at bad April Fools’ jokes. March was a mixed month of warmer-than-expected temperatures and some colder-than-wanted temperatures. Funny, once it gets warm outside and then changes to cold, most people start grumbling.

The St. James Lutheran School Youth Acclaiming Christ group will go to New Orleans from July 16-20, 2016, to proclaim and share their faith with youth from all over the United States. “It’s getting kids together for fellowship and to continue their faith in God,” said Shelly Dobberstein, a youth leader who will accompany the group. O’Brien earned a degree in history from Valparaiso University and a master’s in history from Northern Michigan University. During his senior year at Valparaiso, he was drafted by the Detroit Lions. After five games, he injured his knee and was released.

Sylvia A. Block, 78, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Pine Manor Health Care Center, Embarrass. The former Sylvia Ann Malueg was born on Nov. 8, 1936, in the town of Pella, Shawano County, to Ferdinand and Alma (Pankow) Malueg Sr. She was united in marriage on May 25, 1957, to Elmer J. Block at Zion Lutheran Church in Caroline.

Robert A. Jahnke, 75, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at St. Joseph Residence, New London. Robert Alvin Jahnke was born on June 13, 1939, in Milwaukee to Alvin and Birdell (Lohr) Jahnke. After graduating from South Pulaski High School in 1957, he entered the U.S. Navy.

Michelle S. Syndergaard-Buettner, 53, of Shawano, found peace on Thursday afternoon, April 2, 2015, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Madison. Martha Buce, 71, of Burkburnett, Texas, received her angel wings on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015, in the chapel of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Scott, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett. Martha was born on Feb. 14, 1944, in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was a graduate of Gresham High School in 1962.
