Tom Gryboski, of Lakewood, has resigned from the Oconto County Board, citing health concerns. His resignation takes effect July 16, and an appointment for District 30 is scheduled to take place July 23.
The district covers part of Riverview and all of Lakewood. The two-year term expires in April 2016.
“It’s been very enjoyable,” Gryboski told the Times Herald. “After 17 years, I decided to give it up.”
Gryboski served on three committees: finance/insurance, highway and the board of adjustment. He said his favorite committee was the board of adjustment, which is responsible for zoning changes and granting permits for special projects.
“It was challenging,” he said, describing the board of adjustments. “Some committees are pretty much rubber stamps.”
Chairman Lee Rymer on Thursday thanked Gryboski for his service.
“He’s been a good member, and he’s been a good friend,” Rymer said.
To fill the vacancy, the towns of Lakewood and Riverview will submit their recommendation to Rymer, who will appoint someone on July 23. The County Board will follow with a vote to approve the appointment.
Rymer invited supervisors to send letters of interest if they wanted to be candidates for the highway committee. Committee members are elected by the board, and elections are scheduled July 23.
