Baldwin congratulates Menominee on health prize

U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., this week congratulated the Menominee Nation on being awarded a prestigious 2015 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Culture of Health Prize in recognition of its commitment and progress in improving public health. “I give my heartfelt congratulations to the Menominee Nation on being nationally recognized for their steadfast commitment to improving the physical and spiritual health of the community,” Baldwin said.

Tigerton referendum on ballot Tuesday
Tigerton School District is asking voters to approve a referendum Tuesday to override the state-imposed revenue cap and allow the district to collect $1.5 million to $1.6 million in local taxes over the next five years. If the referendum were to fail, Tigerton schools could be forced to close their doors in about three years, district officials said.

Voter ID needed for referendum
Shawano School District officials are urging voters to remember their photo ID cards when heading to polls Tuesday for a referendum on middle school renovations. It will be the first election cycle since Wisconsin state lawmakers imposed identification requirements for anyone wishing to cast a ballot. The middle school referendum is the only issue on the ballot in Shawano. Polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

School officials adjust start time
Students at Olga Brener Intermediate School in Shawano are receiving a little extra time to get to school in the morning. School officials have adjusted the daily start time from 8:10 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. to accommodate students whose school buses might be running late. Effective Monday, the end of the school day also is being pushed back 10 minutes, from 3:10 p.m.

Joleen L. Kaquatosh, 46, of Green Bay, formerly of Keshena, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later date. Mickelson Funeral & Cremation Service of Shawano is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lorraine A. Schommer
Lorraine A. Schommer, 92, went home to be with the Lord in Largo, Florida, on Oct. 24, 2015. Lorraine was born on Nov. 18, 1922, in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, to the late Grace A. (Bourke) Dupré and Joseph L. Dupré. She grew up and attended school in New Bedford, Massachusetts. On June 24, 1944, she was united in marriage to F.C. “Buck” Schommer. Buck preceded her in death in 2009.

Eva A. Schultz
Eva A. Schultz, 88, of Shawano, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, in Shawano. Eva was born on Sept. 12, 1927, in Shawano to the late Walter and Ida (Dey) Kucksdorf. On Sept. 13, 1947, she was united in marriage to Clarence Schultz at Elias Lutheran Church in the town of Herman. Clarence preceded her in death on July 31, 1994. Together, the family owned and operated a dairy farm in the town of Herman for many years.
