The Groniger building, known as the Opera House in the early 1900s, is the now the home of the Suring Area Historical Society. Once the center of the area’s social events, the building also has been home to a car dealership and retail stores selling shoes, antiques and home decor. The building now houses the Nines, a resale clothing store, and has one apartment in the back. The building was constructed in 1909.

Wisconsin Waterfowl Association received a $1,250 Green Gift from Cellcom at a presentation Oct. 27 at its Abrams site. The gift will support the construction of new accessible blinds with ramps at the group’s Abrams property. The Wisconsin Waterfowl Association works to further restoration and conservation of the state’s waterfowl and wetland resources and implement education for Wisconsin youth that heightens awareness about the resources.

The Suring School District will operate under a balanced budget for the 2015-16 school year, reversing a trend in which deficit budgets were the norm. The district has been using its fund balance to cover expenses for the past five years; the last time a balanced budget was proposed was the 2009-2010 school year. Chris Woleske of Bellin Health has been selected to serve on the Wisconsin Hospital Association board of directors for a three-year term starting Jan. 1, 2016. Woleske has served as CEO of Bellin Health Oconto Hospital since 2005.

Dairy producers have the opportunity to enroll in the Farm Service Agency’s Dairy Margin Protection Program now through Nov. 20. MPP is a risk-management tool available to all dairy producers that allows them to protect their economic risk from low milk prices, high feed prices or a combination of both.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting to discuss design concepts for a proposed reconditioning of state Highway 22 from Highland Drive to U.S. Highway 141. The project is anticipated to be constructed in 2017. The meeting will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Oconto Falls High School, 210 North Farm Road.

The 1970-era Main Street rededication ceremony, complete with a square dance and bicycle parade, commemorated the most recent overhaul of Main Street. A three-day festival, held from Oct. 14-16, 1971, culminated with a ribbon cutting and parade down Main Street 44 years ago. According to newspaper accounts of the rededication, merchants offered three days of storewide sales. Prizes were awarded, including the grand prize of a color TV.
