A Birnamwood woman has been charged with a felony count of forgery for allegedly passing a bogus check in the village in March.
Laci J. Walkush, 25, could face a maximum six years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted.

Menominee tribal leaders said Wednesday the crop raided by federal agents last week contained no marijuana as alleged by the federal government.
Tribal Chairman Gary Besaw issued a statement reasserting that the tribe was growing only industrial hemp, a different type of plant with no psychoactive effects like those derived from smoking marijuana.
“It can’t get you high,” Besaw said.

Christopher W. Hottenstine, 43, of Shawano, passed away quietly early Wednesday morning, Oct. 28, 2015, with his loving family by his side. He had bravely battled a brain tumor for the past four years.
Christopher was born on Dec. 1, 1971, in Appleton, a son of Wayne and Natasha (Rathsack) Hottenstine. He attended the Appleton schools, graduating from Appleton West in 1991.
Curtis L. Beilfuss, 84, of Menasha, formerly of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, Oct. 27, 2015, at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Home in Menasha, where he had been a resident for the past five years.
Curtis was born on Aug. 2, 1931, in Shawano, a son of the late Elmer and Edna (Schenk) Beilfuss. He attended grade school in Cecil and later graduated from Bonduel High School.
Wendell N. “Sim” Askenette, Nīw Nōwaeqnaen “four winds, four directions,” 66, of Keshena, passed away on Oct. 29, 2015, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King.
Wendell was born on Sept. 20, 1949, in Keshena, to the late Alexander and Sue (John) Askenette. He graduated from Shawano High School in 1967 and enlisted in the United States Army in 1969.
