Tyler Schmidt has volunteered for the youth baseball programs in Shawano for many years. He was born in Shawano and graduated from Shawano High School in 1994. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for two years, then began working for the city in 1996. He is currently the landfill operator. Schmidt and his wife, Heather, a kindergarten teacher at Hillcrest, have been married 17 years.

On a nice summer day, you will likely find Mike McCord with a cup of coffee in his backyard, recovering from recent surgeries. McCord recently retired after 25 years as superintendent of the Clintonville Public Works Department. “This is a great city,” McCord said. “I consider Clintonville my home.” “I am very appreciative for what he has done for the city for 25 years,” Mayor Judith Magee said.

The controversy surrounding the Clintonville Common Council took another turn recently when a recall effort was launched against Fourth District Alderman Greg Rose, who was elected to a two-year term in April 2013. Wm. Van Daalwyk filed a statement of intent to circulate a petition to recall Rose with the city clerk’s office on July 17.

Eugene L. Peterson, 89, of Lunds, passed away Friday morning, July 25, 2014, at Sheridan Health and Rehabilitation Center in Kenosha. Loraine A. Grosskopf, 93, of Shawano, passed away Monday morning, July 21, 2014, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. The former Loraine Stoehr was born Sept. 13, 1920, one of 13 children born to the late Joseph and Theresa (Weber) Stoehr. Loraine was born in Gresham and enjoyed life growing up on her family’s farm. After graduating from Gresham High School, she continued her education by attending the Oshkosh Teachers College.

Barbara Frechette-Kelley, 78, passed away Thursday evening, July 24, 2014, in Gresham. Born on Nov. 5, 1935, in Keshena, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Sarah (Irving) Frechette. On Nov. 15, 1986, Barbara was united in marriage to Ellsworth A. Kelley. He preceded her in death in 1989. Living most of her life in the Keshena area, she was active in the community. Barbara worked as the Menominee County treasurer for over 30 years.

Shawano native Anna Lee Scully, now of Virginia, will be among the diverse group of musicians performing at the 36th annual Shawano Folk Music Festival from Aug.

Clintonville 1, Bonduel 0 The Bonduel American Legion baseball team lost to Clintonville 1-0 Friday in the Class A Region 3 tournament in Marion. Clintonville pitcher Turner Doornink threw a no-hitter to give Bonduel its first loss of the double-elimination tourney.
