Cecelia Trossen

Cecelia Ann Trossen, 94, passed away peacefully Sept. 5, 2026.

Cecelia was born Jan. 12, 1932, to the late Herman and Martha Leonard. She grew up in Sheboygan and later made her home in Suring before eventually settling in Mountain.

Cecelia married Robert Trossen on Jan. 13, 1949, and together they built a life centered around family, hard work and many cherished memories.

Ruthie M. Olsen

Ruthie M. Olsen, 86, of Wittenberg, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, at Aspirus Langlade Hospital surrounded by her closest loved ones.

Ruthie was born April 6, 1940, in Birnamwood, the daughter of Vernon and Elsie (Kortbein) Schrank.

On April 11, 1959, Ruthie was united in marriage to Richard Olsen at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wittenberg.

Zackariah J. McCarty

Zackariah J. McCarty, 33, of Galloway, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, at Mayo Clinic-Saint Mary’s Campus in Rochester, Minnesota, surrounded by his family.

Zack was born Sept. 19, 1992, in Rhinelander, the son of Joe and Krista (Duellman) Filtz.

Zack graduated from Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School in 2011.

Joanne Peterson

Joanne Peterson, 83, Green Bay, passed away Friday, Sept. 4, 2026.

Friends and family will gather at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., Green Bay, from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Sept. 11. The funeral service will follow at noon.

Airguns are great tools for learning early hunter safety

I grew up with guns, and from an early age, learned to handle BB and pellet guns before moving up to real firearms like .22 rifles and .410-gauge shotguns. There’s an entry in my baby book that I shot a house sparrow at the tender age of 3 with my trusty Red Ryder BB gun (with assistance holding that now prized possession from my older brother, Brian).
