The Zahn family hosted the sixth annual Dairy at Dusk on Zanadu Dairy in Spruce, bringing together dairy farmers and neighbors for a night of socializing and learning July 22. Lorraine Zahn, who runs the farm with her husband, Jeff, and son, Sam, said her family looked forward to hosting the event. “It’s really a privilege to be able to invite friends, neighbors and people in the business we are in to come and see what we do,” she said.

Mary Lynn Gwidt, 55, Oconto Falls, died unexpectedly of natural causes July 24, 2014, at her home. The daughter of Adam and Ione (Moesch) Gwidt was born in Pulaski on July 3, 1959. Mary Lynn had been employed at Carver Yacht in Pulaski and then for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where she was involved with the gypsy moth studies. Mary Lynn was a small animal 4-H leader in Oconto County.

Criminal Damage - Authorities investigated an incident of a person throwing a can out a vehicle window, causing damage to an oncoming vehicle on County Road B and Goatsville Road in Oconto Falls. Illegal Burn - Authorities responded to a report on Young Road of a person burn

The Oconto County Board of Supervisors on Thursday voted to designate $2 million from the general fund balance, upping the total funding to $30 million, for construction of the Oconto County law enforcement center. The center will be built in a residential area near the courthouse to replace an outdated facility in the courthouse complex that needs major updates and has limited capacity.

An increase of investigations of child neglect and child abuse—there were 21 cases in June alone—have spurred Oconto County to hire an additional employee in the Department of Health and Human Services. The County Board on Thursday approved hiring a third initial assessment worker for the department.

To the editor: Tom Tiffany’s recent mocking of Mary Burke’s stance on the mine requires rebuttal. Tiffany touts the mine as northern Wisconsin’s economic salvation, but we are concerned it could just as easily become an environmental disaster. The site is not in Tiffany’s district. Why is he so enthusiastically shilling for GTAC, the mining company? He certainly doesn’t represent a majority of people who live there.
