“The Bone Forest” by V.J. Chambers was the first in the Wren Delacroix thriller series. Wren Delacroix grew up in a cult called The Fellowship of the Children of the Lord or FCL. In the early years, the FCL was a small, benign communal Christian group on the outskirts of a quiet Virginia town.

Dale D. Hohn, 77, of Clintonville, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2023, at his home. Dale David Hohn was born March 28, 1946, in Shawano, second son to the late Daniel and Fern (Hecker) Hohn, of Bowler. He was baptized at Elias Lutheran Church, Gresham. He graduated from Bowler High School and immediately entered into military service with the Marine Corps on June 1, 1964.

Ruben A. Hein, 93, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, surrounded by family at his home in Gillett. Ruben was born on June 1, 1930, in the Town of How, to the late Frank and Elsie (Schmidt) Hein. Ruben enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably in the Korean Conflict. On Sept. 13, 1952, he was united in marriage to Genevieve Otradovec at St. Joseph of the Lake Church in South Branch.

John Schindel, 66, Green Bay, formerly of Denmark, died Thursday evening, Nov. 23, 2023. He was born July 6, 1957, in Oconto Falls to August and Irene (Heitke) Schindel. John attended Oconto Falls public schools where he graduated high school and later attended Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. John lived most of his life in the Denmark area where he was self-employed as a surveyor.

Carol J. Baldwin, 81, of Suring, passed away at home on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2023. Carol was born on Aug. 26, 1942, to the late Cyril and Marjorie (Bell) Bader. She graduated from Coleman High School. On Dec. 2, 1961, Carol married Rodney “Joe” Baldwin Sr. in Tacoma, Washington. Carol worked as a teacher’s aide at Mountain and Suring schools and later as an aide at New View Industries. She loved nature, greatly enjoying flowers and gardening.

In the back end of a boys and girls doubleheader Nov. 25, the Shawano Hawks girls basketball team couldn’t have asked for a much better result as they made quick work of the Clintonville Truckers. All it took was a 25-2 run in the first half to bust the game open; the Hawks held a 40-8 lead at the half before cruising to the 65-19 victory. “Great win for our girls tonight,” head coach Ryan Koenig said.

Coming off an impressive 63-49 victory over Lakeland earlier in the week, the Shawano boys basketball team was back on the court Nov.

A Gillett man died in a one-vehicle accident during the early morning hours of Nov. 25. Oconto County Sheriff Todd Skarban said dispatchers received the call about 3:15 a.m. regarding the accident on state Highway 22 near Old U Road in the Town of Gillett. Responding deputies found a pickup truck in the south ditch with extensive damage.

Jameson Beaman scores 29 points to lead the Oconto Falls boys basketball team to a 73-63 win over Menominee Indian on Nov. 21. Beaman knocked in 5-of-11 from the 3-point line, pulled down seven rebounds and had two assists. Alex Haines chipped in 15 points, and Jack Adler had 11. Haiens and Brady Bursa each grabbed 10 boards, and each had three assists.
