LETTER: Proposed bill would protect voter freedoms
To the editor: For decades, Wisconsin ranked near the top in voter participation in the nation. In contrast, when Republicans took control of the governorship and the Legislature in 2010, they pushed through a voter ID law that disenfranchised many elderly, urban, non-driving residents, and college students. LETTER: Lift the ban, and let Van Den Elzen compete
To the editor: I’m requesting that the grandfather clause recommended by WIAA for Trent Van Den Elzen be installed at Suring Public School. Taking away something from a child that has done everything by the book and has been a great teammate is one of the cruelest injustices I can think of.

Five area volleyball players earn all-state honors
Five area volleyball players were among the 216 students honored with all-state recognition, the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association announced. Divisions 1 and 2 named a pair of 10-member first and second teams, Divisions 3 and 4 named a sole 10-member first team, and all four divisions added a list of honorable mention athletes. James A. Wicker
James A. Wicker, 89, of Pound, passed away Nov. 16, 2023, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Oconto Falls. Jim enjoyed spending time with family and his wife of 69 years, Barbara Wicker. He loved the outdoors and putting jigsaw puzzles together. He will lovingly be missed by his family and his church family where he did a lot for his church community. Lois A. Riemer, 93, of Gillett, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023. Lois was born in the town of Gillett on May 5, 1930, to the late Robert and Bernice (Scutt) Jewell. She was the seventh of 10 children and was raised on the family farm south of Gillett along the Oconto River. She was a lifelong resident of Gillett and graduated from Gillett High School with the class of 1948. Lois was united in marriage to Leon E. Riemer on Nov.
