Hawks lose to Denmark The Shawano Community High School volleyball team lost to Bay Conference foe Denmark 3-0 Thursday in Shawano. The Hawks (1-4) lost to Denmark (3-2) 25-7, 25-15, 25-18. Shawano’s Bella Gonzalez had three kills and three blocks.

There was plenty of rain, but not much Thunder at Tuesday’s Bay Conference Tournament soccer match between Shawano and Seymour. The second-seeded Hawks took care of business, handing the No. 7-seed Thunder a 5-0 shutout. “They played well, they played hard,” Shawano coach Bob Croschere said. “This was a team we probably should have beaten.

Sam Falck took first place to lead the third-place Bonduel High School boys cross-country team at the Rosholt cross-country invitational Thursday in Rosholt. Falck finished in 17 minutes, 7 seconds, beating Rosholt’s Jim Liebe to the finish line by 24 seconds. Teammate Isaac Palmer crossed in 17:43 to take fourth and Travis Wollenberg crossed at 17:47 for sixth place. The Bonduel boys finished third with a team score of 68.

Teagan Monfils and Nick Matz led their respective Shawano Community High School cross-country teams at the 35th annual Red Raider Invitational on Thursday in Pulaski. Monfils finished 21st overall, with a time of 16:01. Kristy Kurtz finished in 16:47 for 42nd overall. The Hawks girls finished in 11th place as a team with a score of 268.

What started out as a normal Friday for a Shawano Community High School student in March turned into a fight for survival. Haley Wilber survived that fight, and she did it with the help of blood donations from nearly three dozen people. Now, her parents and school officials are hoping to encourage others to step up this month and donate blood so that others who need it will get it.
