County looks for a piece of casino pie

Shawano County officials are exploring the possibility of getting gaming compact funds from a future Menominee casino in Kenosha, if Gov. Scott Walker approves. Administrative Coordinator Tom Madsen has been in contact with Walker’s office to look at whether the county could receive funds in lieu of taxes for tribal land within Shawano County if the Kenosha project moves forward.

Shawano woman accused of aiding felon
A Shawano woman is facing a felony charge of harboring or aiding a felon who was wanted to by the U.S. Marshal’s office. Jacqueline M. Water main break has city worried
The city of Shawano is looking into whether a downtown water main break last week was an isolated incident or a harbinger of a bigger and potentially expensive problem. The break in the 200 block of South Main Street on Sept. 25 was actually the third such incident involving the water main installed as part of the major Main Street reconstruction project in 2002 and 2003. Richard Koeller, 73, of Shawano, passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Birch Hill Care Center in Shawano following a lengthy illness. Richard attended St. Paul Lutheran Church, Stony Hill, for many years.
