Shawano to honor 3 athletes
The Shawano Community High School athletics hall of fame will welcome three new additions in a ceremony Saturday morning before the Hawks’ homecoming game against Marinette. Elaine A. Rankin
Elaine Anne Rankin, 94, of Bonduel, passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, in Seymour. Born on Aug. 10, 1919, in Seymour, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mable (Steffen) Kailhofer. Elaine grew up in Seymour and graduated from Seymour High School. On March 30, 1946, she was united in marriage to Jeff Rankin in Waukesha. After marriage, the couple moved to Bonduel where they started the Bonduel Farm Implement.

District ready to fill vacancies
The Shawano School District is playing musical chairs to fill key administrative positions as quickly as possible. Administrators have candidates for the number two position at the district office and an associate principal position at Shawano Community High School, pending the ratification of the School Board next week. Lincoln site plan approved
Remodeling work on the former Lincoln School that will turn classrooms into living space is still on track to begin before the the year’s out. The project passed another hurdle this week with the Shawano Plan Commission’s approval of a site plan. Commonwealth Development Corp., of Fond du Lac, plans to construct 16 apartments in the building plus an additional eight cottage units elsewhere on the property.

Commission signs off on TIF amendments
The Shawano Plan Commission this week signed off on a set of amendments to three of the city’s Tax Increment Finance (TIF) districts aimed at giving an additional boost to economic development in those areas. TIF districts are areas where municipalities invest in infrastructure, such as sewer and water, to attract development where it might not otherwise occur, or to make improvements, such as eliminating blight. Local WIC unaffected by shutdown for now
