The Barn Quilts of Oconto County project installed its first two barn quilts for 2015 at the Peterson farm in Sobieski. Robert Peterson purchased the farm in 1989 and milked cows until his retirement in 2008. The farm was then sold to Robert’s son John, who raises calves and has several cats and a dog at the property.

Holt and Balcom Logging Camp Museum in Lakewood announces that its 2015 season officially starts June 13. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays until Aug. 29. On June 27, Holt descendant Don DeWitt will give a presentation featuring movie footage filmed by his great-grandmother, Lucy Holt. It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother at age 94. Florence (Buchholz) Wolfgram was taken by God’s hand to her eternal home on May 26, 2015. Helen Marie Timm, 85, one of Gillett’s servant hearts, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 26, 2015. Born Oct. 10, 1929, in Oconto Falls to the late Charles and Celia (Boucher) Coppens, she graduated from Oconto Falls public schools. After finishing high school, Helen worked as a bookkeeper at Whiting’s Cheese Factory, where she met her future husband, Reuben Timm.

Leon E. Riemer, 90, of Gillett, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2015, following a long illness. Leon was born in the Township of Green Valley on Jan. 31, 1925, to the late Emil and Bertha (Lemke) Riemer. Leon attended schools in Pulcifer and Cecil before graduating from Shawano High School in 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise in the South Pacific during World War II.
