Large area contingent heading to girls state track meet
Bonduel High School sophomore Emily Sorenson will try to follow her sectional long jump title with a state title in this week’s WIAA Division 2 state finals for girls track and field in La Crosse. Sorenson (17 feet, ½ inch) won the sectional at home Friday and will open state competition in the second flight Friday.
6 area boys still in running for state track glory
The Shawano Community High School boys track and field team has two competitors in this week’s WIAA Division 1 state finals in La Crosse. Senior Daniel Boivin qualified in both the 300-meter hurdles and the pole vault, while Jake Klister advanced in the 800-meter run. Boivin’s sectional-best mark of 14 feet in the pole vault puts him in the top half of the qualifying heights in the event.
Bonduel, Shiocton meet again for regional title
Bonduel High School used a well-balanced attack to rout visiting Weyauwega-Fremont 9-2 Tuesday and advance to a WIAA Division 3 regional championship game. The Bears pounded out 14 hits, scoring in all but the sixth inning, as they extended their winning streak to eight games. No. 1-seeded Bonduel has not lost since May 12, when it fell 1-0 to Shiocton.

Spring grads raise CMN total above 1,000 mark
Saturday’s commencement ceremonies at the College of Menominee Nation represented a special milestone for the college. The 111 students eligible for graduation from CMN’s Keshena and Green Bay campuses brought the college’s total number of alumni above the 1,000 mark. Candidates received bachelor’s and associate degrees, technical diplomas and certificates of mastery in 15 programs of study.
Michael F. Blick
Michael F. Blick, 64, of Shawano, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2015. Mike was born in Appleton on April 29, 1951, to the late Eugene and Josephine (Van Harpen) Blick. On June 5, 1971, in Shawano, he was united in marriage to Brenda Vigue. Mike worked at the Shawano Paper Mill, Little Rapids Corp, for nearly 40 years before his retirement in 2013. Mike loved being outdoors.
Red Arrow to hold fundraiser at Old Town Hall
Red Arrow will host a club meeting, trail ride and pig roast Saturday, June 13, at the Old Town Hall Sports Bar/Restaurant in Townsend. Open to the public, the event will start with a short meeting at noon followed by an ATV/UTV ride on trails in the area. Beginning at 3 p.m. and extending into the evening will be meat raffles, disc jockey music, food and refreshments, a pig roast and bonfire.
