Debra (Haut) Stachura, 60, Pulaski, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 2, 2015, with her family at her side, loving and supporting her until the end. She had fought a courageous battle with cancer for almost two years. Deb was born Feb. 28, 1955, in Shawano to Carl and Dorothy (Schultz) Haut. She attended St. James Lutheran School and was a 1973 graduate of Shawano High School.

The Shawano School District has named six students as recipients of Hawk Way awards, including two students from Shawano Community Middle School who were recognized for standing up to bullies. Caroline Bedroske, executive director of Wolf River Lutheran High in Cecil, has been selected by the Van Lunen Center for Executive Management in Christian Schools at Calvin College for a fellowship. The Van Lunen Center’s 2015-2016 fellows include educators from 24 schools across the United States, Canada and beyond. The program is designed for school heads who seek professional development in their work as administrators of faith-based schools.

The Shawano School District is stressing the importance of good nutrition with its summer food service program. The program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, provides nutritious meals to children during the summer, when free and reduced-price school meals are unavailable. Free meals will be made available to eligible children 18 and younger.

Spirit of Shawano Park will get its planned renovation, but a shortage of contractors interested in doing the work is delaying the project for a while.
