Bonduel claims regional title in extra innings

There was no love lost between Bonduel High School and visiting Shiocton in Friday night’s WIAA Division 3 regional championship game in Bonduel. Shiocton handed the Bears their only loss of the season last month and last year knocked them out the playoffs. Former Clintonville dentist celebrates 100th birthday
Dr. Harold Laatsch was born in a log house on a farm near Caroline on May 28, 100 years ago. The retired Clintonville dentist credits his longevity to taking good care of himself by eating right and staying in shape. Some of his earliest exercise came by way of picking stones as a boy on the farm. He also recalls walking 6 miles to attend Marion High School. “I didn’t mind walking because you were not alone,” Laatsch said.

John S. Granchay
John Steven Granchay, 60, of Shawano, died on Thursday, May 28, 2015, in Appleton. John was born on Oct. 28, 1954, in Weirton, West Virginia, to the late Richard and Jeanette (Rzepka) Granchay. He graduated from Madonna High School in 1972 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Marquette University. John worked as a social worker and was an honorary life member and past president of Wisconsin Social Services Association.

Rose Ann Bowan
Rose Ann Bowan, 68, of Shawano, died on June 4, 2015, in Shawano. Rose was born in Shawano on Dec. 24, 1946, to the late Earl and Lillie (Seehafer) Bowan. She worked at several companies in the sewing industry, including Hanson Glove in Clintonville, Eagle Knit in Shawano and Wisconsew in Shawano. Most recently, Rose worked at Wal-Mart in Shawano.

Officials look to raise elder abuse awareness
Elder abuse is on the rise in Shawano County, and human services officials are hoping to increase awareness of the issue next week. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is June 15, but local officials have several events planned leading up to a presentation at the Shawano City-County Library that day. Ainsworth, Huntington top awards list at SCHS banquet
Multiple Shawano Community High School student-athletes took home hardware at the spring athletic banquet Monday at The Gathering in Shawano. SOCCER Shawano 7 Hortonville 3 No. 5-seeded Shawano won its WIAA Division 2 regional opener 7-3 at No. 4 Hortonville on Thursday. Louisa Keenan gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead with a goal 13 minutes into the game. Megan Klitzke made it a 2-0 lead 10 minutes later.
