LeRoy A. Schoepke, 68, of the town of Richmond, Shawano, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 6, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness. A time of visitation for LeRoy will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano. A committal service for LeRoy will be held at 2:45 p.m.

A funeral mass for Elaine Priem will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Shawano. Father Luke Ferris will be the Celebrant. Interment will be in the Parish Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at Sacred Heart Catholic Church after 9 a.m.

Phyllis T. Hesselink, 90, 0f Shawano, passed away Wednesday morning, Nov. 6, 2013, at the Evergreen Care Center in Shawano where she had been a resident for the past two years. Funeral services for Phyllis Hesselink will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, at St. James Lutheran Church of Shawano. Pastor Ted Andrada will officiate. Interment will be in the Lake Drive Cemetery, town of Wescott.

Loretta Jean “Peanut” Waupoose, 41, of South Branch, passed away Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at her home. Born on Sept. 26, 1972, in Bessemer, Mich., she was the daughter of Leona Mae (Goodwill) Waupoose and the late Mitchell Waupoose. Loretta enjoyed being outdoors and going for rides in the woods. She also liked big trucks and fast cars. She was a hard worker and loved being a mom to her boys.

By the time the assembly was finished at Olga Brener Intermediate School, many children were enjoying their spoils — and several teachers were getting whipped cream out of their hair. Olga Brener students gathered Friday afternoon for a celebration in honor of the end of the testing period for the Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam, a state test given to grades 3-8 and high school sophomores. Test results will not be known for several months,

Ross Westphal was named the Clintonville High School football team’s most valuable player, won the Golden Helmet Award and was named the Mike Mahnke Two-Way Player to lead the Truckers in awards for the 20d13 season. Charlie Poppe was named the team’s most dedicated player and won the Hustle Award. Skyler Lehman and Travis Whisman shared the Savage Award.

Sophomore Clare Martell will be fighting for a second-straight trip to state and junior Ali Hanson will be looking to reach state in an individual event for the first time as the Shawano/Bonduel girls swim team competes Saturday at the WIAA Division 1 sectional in Neenah. Martell, who took 11th in the 100-yard breaststoke last year at the state meet, has the top time heading into the sectional, 1:07.87.

The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department will continue to provide law enforcement services for the Ho-Chunk and Stockbridge-Munsee tribes in 2014. Capt.

Hillcrest Primary School officials are interested in increasing the size of the school’s parking lots, but it might be at the expense of green space. Shawano School District maintenance director Jeff Easter presented the idea Wednesday to the Buildings and Grounds Committee as part of a list of future capital projects the district should consider funding. Easter said the suggestion came from Principal Troy Edwards.
