With more and more parents across the county taking their children – even babies – in for chiropractic care, there are still questions as to why they might need care, if it is safe for children and what the benefits are. The Chiropractic Society of Wisconsin, along with doctors of chiropractic across the state, have made it a point recently to expand their efforts to educate parents on the role chiropractic care can play in the overall health car

Kayla Steffel, AgSource’s northeast region field technician, completed the intermediate field technician training session Sept. 1-2 at the AgSource headquarters in Verona. Intermediate training brings staff together in an educational setting to focus on the foundation of dairy herd improvement services, including management reports, data collection and herd products.

The Shawano City-County Library will continue to provide several free programs during October. This month’s featured program will be a Halloween tea at 2 p.m. Oct. 15. The gothic theme will include décor, presentation on the history of Halloween, and Halloween/horror movie trivia. So don your pointed hats, capes and costumes for a spooky tea.

A dead crow found in Shawano County on Sept. 11 has tested positive for West Nile virus.

Bernice Hawley, 88, of Muskego, and recently Wayzata, Minnesota, died in her sleep of complications from pneumonia on Sept. 19, 2015. Bernice was born on Dec. 19, 1926, in Shawano, graduated from Shawano High School in 1944 and attended nursing school in a World War II program that trained military nurses. She spoke warmly about loving outdoor activities and spending time with relatives in the rural Shawano area as a young girl.

The Box in the Wood Theatre Guild at the Mielke Arts Center in Shawano is preparing its next stage production, “The Devil and Daniel Webster.” Written by Don Goodrum and presented with permission of Stage Rights, of Los Angeles, the dramedy is set to open on Oct. 8 and run for two weekends. Show times are 7 p.m. Oct. 8-10 and Oct. 15-17 and 2 p.m. Oct.

An employee of Bowman Performance Consulting is a member of the current Leadership Shawano County class, which held its first session of the nine-month program on Sept. 10. “I am very excited to be given the opportunity to participate in the Leadership Shawano County program,” said Dani Ebert, of Bowman Performance Consulting. “After attending orientation and learning more about LSC, I believe it will be a great fit for me.

The Clintonville Area Historical Society fall event and annual meeting will be held Nov. 5 in the American Legion Building, 20 Memorial Circle. The price is $10 per person. The social hour with a cash bar begins at 5 p.m. A short meeting will be held at 5:45 p.m. and will include a board of directors election. A catered meal will be served at 6:15 p.m. The program is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
