Bears sweep Gillett despite early struggles
After the Bonduel High School girls volleyball team opened up a 7-point lead on host Gillett in the second game of its nonconference match Thursday night, the Tigers fought back. Tough serving by Jessica Anderson created problems for the bigger hitters for the Bears, who continued to attack despite shaky passing, which led to sets farther off the net. Once Gillett tied the game at 21-21, Bonduel (13-11) found its rhythm.

County fair building project gets no funds
An overhaul of the Junior Fair Building on the Shawano County Fairgrounds has been zero-funded in the county’s capital spending plans for next year. Shawano Community High School senior Julia Beck shot a 102 during the Bay Conference meet Tuesday to help the Hawks finish third and earned herself a spot on the all-conference first team. Brianna Zook finished just one stroke behind Beck at Wandering Springs Golf Course in Greenleaf, and Gabby Krueger shot a 106.
