WW II veteran headlines Clintonville Historical Society program

The Clintonville Area Historical Society fall event and annual meeting will be held Nov. 5 in the American Legion Building, 20 Memorial Circle. The price is $10 per person. The social hour with a cash bar begins at 5 p.m. A short meeting will be held at 5:45 p.m. and will include a board of directors election. A catered meal will be served at 6:15 p.m. The program is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. A 50/50 raffle will be held. The program will feature Clintonville native Eugene Schulz, whose presentation is titled “The Ghost in General Patton’s Third Army.” He has written a book of the same title. It is his memoir of the three years he served with the Army’s XX Corps in World War II, from training to combat. The XX Corps earned the title of Ghost Corps when it confounded the Germans in France and Germany by showing up where it was least expected. Schultz was an eyewitness to the first Nazi concentration camp discovered in Germany by American troops. Books will be available for purchase after the program. Board members whose three-year terms expire in November are Marilyn Berkvam, Sandy Loberg and Kathy Mitchell. A committee has been appointed to nominate members for the election. Members can make additional nominations from the floor at the meeting. Nominations also may be sent, by Oct. 5, to CAHA Nomination Committee, P.O. Box 1, Clintonville, WI 54929, or by email to clintonvilleareahistory@gmail.com. Candidates must be Clintonville Area Historical Society members in good standing. Anyone planning to attend the Fall Event is asked to RSVP. For information, call Marilyn Berkvam, 715-823-5695.
