‘The Devil and Daniel Webster’ opens on Oct. 8

The Box in the Wood Theatre Guild at the Mielke Arts Center in Shawano is preparing its next stage production, “The Devil and Daniel Webster.” Written by Don Goodrum and presented with permission of Stage Rights, of Los Angeles, the dramedy is set to open on Oct. 8 and run for two weekends. Show times are 7 p.m. Oct. 8-10 and Oct. 15-17 and 2 p.m. Oct. 11 and 18. The play centers on a man, Jabez, who is down on his luck and makes a seven-year contract with the devil to turn his life around. He’s now doing well, but the seven years are up and the devil has come to claim his soul. Enter friend Daniel Webster, who is going to defend Jabez in a most unusual trial. This production, sponsored by the Shawano County Arts Council, is being directed by Mary and Tom Madsen. The cast includes Ralph Beversdorf, Geoff Madsen, Ethan Fregien, Maddi Steuwer, Stacey Myers and David Woosencraft. Supporting players make up the Jury of the Damned.
