On July 3, 2025, Rodney Arthur Sleeter, 75, lost his battle with heart disease. He passed away at home surrounded by his family. Rod was born April 11, 1950, to the late Harold and Martha (McMahon) Sleeter. When he was 19, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his four years at the SAC base in Merced, California, during the Vietnam Era.

Jon R., 63, and Katherine L. “Kathy” Ford, 64, of Shawano, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 12, 2025, in Alaska. A memorial Mass for Jon and Kathy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. The Rev. Edward Looney will be the celebrant. Burial will take place at Lake Drive Cemetery, Town of Wescott. Visitation will begin on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 4-7 p.m.

Sherrie Lynn Anderson-Framness, 75, of Marshfield, passed peacefully into Jesus’ presence on July 1, 2025, at Marshfield Medical Center, with her family by her side. Born April 20, 1950, in Oconto Falls, Sherrie was the daughter of Ralph and Cora (Witzke) Anderson.

Shawano County District 22 Supervisor Raymond Rigsby is slated to become the next Shawano County clerk. Rigsby was recommended for the post by the county’s executive committee July 2. A 32-year-old Shawano area man was struck and killed while walking along County Road HH near Parkwood Drive in the Town of Washington in the early morning hours of July 7. According to a statement from the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department, at about 4:15 a.m., Shawano County Dispatch received a 911 call from a motorist who believed he had struck something with his vehicle.

After having his leg amputated while conscious in 2012, Dennis Schulz has been thankful for the first responders who saved his life. While driving a semi-truck through Chicago at 2:50 a.m., Schulz was struck by another semi-truck that was dodging a vehicle pulled over by law enforcement. The wreckage trapped Schulz in the driver’s seat. “Thirteen years ago, I was in that bad accident with his semi-trailer inside my cab,” Schulz said.

Community Action for Healthy Living (CAHL) conducted Wisconsin Wins tobacco compliance checks throughout the month of June across 10 counties in northeast Wisconsin, including Shawano and Oconto. These investigations are part of an ongoing effort to prevent the illegal sale of tobacco and nicotine products to minors.

It took a little longer than expected, but the 2025-27 biennial Wisconsin budget is now settled — making some folks happy but disappointing others. The $111 billion state budget was officially signed into law in the early hours of July 3 by Gov. Tony Evers following a marathon session by the Wisconsin Assembly the day before to reapprove the budget by a 59-39 vote after changes were made in the Wisconsin Senate.

Judge Jay Conley levied a fine, ordered restitution and sentenced her to 90 days time served in the county jail. • Arianah Rose Dawson, 18, Pulaski, was charged June 30 with possession of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
