Man struck, killed while walking along county road

A 32-year-old Shawano area man was struck and killed while walking along County Road HH near Parkwood Drive in the Town of Washington in the early morning hours of July 7. According to a statement from the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department, at about 4:15 a.m., Shawano County Dispatch received a 911 call from a motorist who believed he had struck something with his vehicle. The caller reported seeing shoes in the roadway but was unsure of the individual’s location. Deputies responded and, after a brief search, located a man lying in the ditch. He was unresponsive and not breathing. Deputies immediately began CPR, and EMS arrived shortly thereafter. Despite life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle, a 38-year-old man from the Keshena area, was cooperative with law enforcement during the initial investigation. The driver indicated he was returning home from work in Green Bay. Preliminary findings show the impact occurred in the northbound lane of County Road HH. The sheriff’s department was assisted at the scene by Shawano Ambulance, Bonduel EMS, Cecil-Washington Fire Department and the Shawano County Coroner’s Office. The investigation continues.
