Ira Dale Kiser died on Thursday, Dec. 18, from complications due to an abdominal aortic aneurysm at the age of nearly 76. He was born on Jan.

Lawrence J. “Larry” Schmidt, 55, of 450 S. Milwaukee St., Oconto Falls, died on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014. Larry was born on Aug. 20, 1959, in Shawano to the late Earl and Anna (Hoffman) Schmidt, growing up on the Green Valley Farms in the town of Green Valley.

The Gillett School District will continue to purchase hours of technology support through the Cooperative Educational Service Agency, or CESA, for the remainder of the school year. In the fall, the district purchased 200 hours of high level technical support from CESA on a trial basis and has used up almost all of the time. Oconto County will pay the city of Oconto over a quarter million dollars to purchase city property for a new law enforcement center and to reimburse the city for the property taxes it expects to lose once homes and businesses in the footprint of the LEC are removed. The Oconto County Board on Thursday adopted a memorandum of understanding with the city to pay $175,000 in a payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT), to be paid in a lump sum.
