Sheriff: ID of human remains unknown

More than seven months after human remains were discovered in the town of Richmond, authorities have still not released a positive identification or the cause of death. They also have not explained why it is taking so long to answer those questions. Slow period leads Hawks to 6-1 loss
Still mourning the death of its coach, and still looking for its first win this season, the Shawano Community High School varsity reserve hockey team lost to visiting Grafton 6-1 Friday night at the Crawford Center. Wearing stickers on their helmets as a tribute to coach Tommie CarlinSchauer, who died last week of cancer, the Hawks (0-6) skated even with Grafton for the first and third periods.

Martin Robert Schmidt, 88, of Shawano, died on Monday, Dec. 22, 2014. He was born on Feb. 1, 1926, in Antigo, to the late Herman and Mary (Smith) Schmidt. Martin enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during World War II.

SACF helps group helping the homeless
Shawano Area Matthew 25 was created with a mission to help local homeless people in Shawano and Menominee counties. Vernon “Vern” Pelkey, 57, of rural Marion, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at ThedaCare Medical Center, New London. Vernon Lee Pelkey was born on March 11, 1957, in New London to Israel and Shirley (Dewherhurst) Pelkey. Vern was united in marriage to Patricia A. Smith on Dec. 15, 2000.
