Rattled nerves and a hard-hitting Coleman High School team contributed to Bonduel’s 4-1 loss Tuesday in a WIAA Division 3 baseball sectional semifinal at Marathon. Bonduel junior Trevor Pedersen retired the first six Cougars he faced, but hit a roadblock in the third inning when Coleman scored all of its runs.

Oconto Pharmacy announces the winners of its third annual quilt show. First-place winner was Barb Boettcher, of Crivitz, for her Victorian Style quilt featuring old gloves, handkerchiefs, doilies and lace, all which hold special memories for her. She first learned her love of quilting from her mother who used wool and flannel to hand stitch her quilts to keep her children warm on cold Wisconsin nights.

Debra (Haut) Stachura, 60, Pulaski, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 2, 2015, with her family at her side, loving and supporting her until the end. She had fought a courageous battle with cancer for almost two years. Deb was born Feb. 28, 1955, in Shawano to Carl and Dorothy (Schultz) Haut. She attended St. James Lutheran School and was a 1973 graduate of Shawano High School.

Vernon “Vern” Schelk, 78, went home to his Lord on June 5, 2015. He was born on March 8, 1937, in Marinette County to the late Arthur Sr. and Eva (Wankowski) Schelk. Vern proudly served his country, enlisting in the Army in 1957, and was honorably discharged in 1962 with a Medal of Good Conduct. On March 18, 1962, he married Angie (Silva) in San Antonio, Texas. Vern worked in the Iron Foundry at Kohler Company for 37 years and retired in 1999.

Wyatt David Schaal, 17, Gillett With hair so blond it turned almost white in the summer and blue eyes that sparkled mischievously, he came into this world on Jan. 19, 1998.

Arlyn E. Gaertig, 88, Oconto Falls, died of natural causes Wednesday, June 3, 2015, after a short stay at Sharpe Care. He was born June 13, 1926, to Rudolph and Lillian (Gohr) Gaertig. On Nov. 7, 1964, he married Beverly J. Lohf at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Algoma. Arlyn lived in the Oconto Falls area all of his life. He worked in the plywood industry for about 45 years.

Copperfest will be held Friday through Sunday at Ner-Park, on the corner of Arbutus Avenue and Madison Street, in Oconto. Featured events will be pony rides, kids games, a street market, trout pond, petting zoo and stage appearances by comedy juggler Truly Remarkable Loon.

It was just one year ago in May that the Gillett Public Library purchased the BMO Harris bank building next door with the intention of converting the space into a community center. The facility is now renovated and ready to be used by the public. A second bathroom was added, additional countertops were installed to accommodate large groups, and tile flooring replaced the carpeting. Four meeting room/banquet spaces are available.
