Morris M. Krueger, 76, of Shawano, passed away on Tuesday morning, April 8, 2014, at Birch Hill Care Center. Funeral service arrangements are pending and will be announced later. Kandace K. “Kandy” Brown, (Kassube/Pamonicutt), 56 years young, was called home on Saturday, April 5, 2014, in Shawano, with her loving family by her side. Kandy was born June 30, 1957, to Christine (Waupoose) King. On Aug. 1, 2009, she was united in marriage to Roy Brown. She attend the Shawano schools and eventually earned her GED in Milwaukee. Kandy had a very special way with people and was passionate about helping others.

Jeffrey Warren Sousek, 48, of Leopolis, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 7, 2014, doing what he enjoyed — working in the woods. Born on May 30, 1965, in Clintonville, he was the son of Warren and Judy (Schewe) Sousek. Jeff was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Grant. A few years later, he and his family became members at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Leopolis. Jeff attended Marion High School, graduating in 1983.

Kenneth L. Huebner, 72, of the town of Richmond, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, at a local nursing home. Born on Dec. 19, 1941, in Shawano, he was the son of the late Henry and Sarah (Nueske) Huebner. Ken lived in Shawano all his life and graduated from Gresham High School. On Nov. 9, 1963, he was united in marriage to Doris Mikulski in Clintonville. She preceded him in death on July 31, 1997. Ken owned and operated Huebner Electric.

Sandra K. Hitt, 68, of De Pere, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at a local hospital. She was born Sept. 8, 1945, in Ashland, the daughter of the late Walter and Edythe (Becker) Westlund. Sandra was a caring person who showed it in her 40-plus years as a nurse and her rehab work she did with the birds at R-PAWS (Rehabilitation Program at the Wildlife Sanctuary in Bay Beach).

Robert Michael Beck, 90, of Keshena, joined his wife, Shirley, in heaven on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. Bob passed away at Shawano Medical Center, Shawano. Bob was born April 14, 1923, in West Bend, the son of Michael and Amanda (Schacht) Beck. He attended Holy Angels Catholic Grade School and graduated from West Bend High School in June 1942. He enlisted in the Army on Dec. 7, 1943, and was discharged on April 29, 1946.

Shawano Police Department April 7 Police logged 29 incidents, including the following: Warrant — A male subject was taken into custody on a warrant at Lincoln and Fifth streets. Juvenile — Police responded to a juvenile problem at Shawano Community Middle School, 1050 S. Union St. Shoplifting — A 33-year-old woman was cited for shoplifting at Walmart, 1244 E. Green Bay St. Vandalism — Walgreen’s, 401 E. Green Bay St.

Papa Murphy’s Take ‘N Bake Pizza in Shawano recently received two Shawano Country Vision 2017 matching grants. Interior improvement and façade improvement grants totaling $7,500 were awarded to Papa Murphy’s to help cover renovation costs at its new location, 1063 E. Green Bay St., Shawano. Business owner Bart Mattson said the improvements will create 15 to 20 new jobs.

A new coach will rely on a trio of seniors and a sophomore to lead the Menominee Indian High School baseball team this season. New Eagles coach Chris Rice takes over a program that went 5-9 a year ago under Michael Waupoose, finishing in eighth-place with a 3-6 conference record. “It’s my first year ever coaching baseball,” Rice said. “We’re trying to stress fundamentals, getting good footwork and working on the basics of baseball.
