Linda Jeanette (Lemke) Hill, 97, of Birnamwood, passed away on Saturday morning, Jan. 10, with her daughter by her side. Linda was the youngest daughter of 14 children born to Wilhelm Edward and Emilia (Strohschein) Lemke in the town of Dupont, Waupaca County, on Dec. 6, 1917. John M. Ballbach Sr., 75, of Gresham, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, from injuries sustained in a car accident. John was born on Jan. 12, 1940, in Port Washington, the son of the late George and Mildred (Reiter) Ballbach. On Nov. 3, 1961, John and Rae C. George took a 1957 Corvette to Iowa and were united in marriage. Together they raised seven children. In 1989, John and Rae moved to the Shawano area.

Linda Wolff, 56, Birnamwood, formerly of Tigerton, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at the Langlade Hospital, Antigo. She was born June 9, 1958, in Wausau, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Ann (Hassenfus) Boehm. On Aug. 4, 1990, she married Blaine Wolff at Mission Lake.

Hildegarde (Hinkel) Guilford, formerly of Shawano, passed away at her daughter’s home in E. Calais, Vermont, on Jan. 12, 2015. Hildy was born on April 12, 1918, to Robert C. Hinkel and Alma (Burmeister) Hinkel, of Cecil and Bonduel. She married Arnold Guilford in 1942. He preceded her in death in 1983. Hildy moved to Shawano in 1987 to be closer to her cousins and developed many strong friendships.

An autopsy was planned Saturday for a man found dead Thursday in the wreckage of a home destroyed by fire in Green Valley. Authorities on Friday were not yet releasing the man’s name. Firefighters responded to the fire on Town Line Road in Green Valley, just west of Krakow, shortly after 6 a.m. The house was already engulfed when they arrived.

A downtown Shawano bar will have to close its doors for 10 days as punishment for an after-hours violation that resulted in two arrests.
