Advisory forecast should be viewed before spreading manure
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is reminding farmers and manure applicators to check the runoff risk advisory forecast before spreading manure on fields. The tool helps determine the potential for manure runoff from a field, depending on weather conditions and soil temperature.
Dean positions restored after coach resignation
The Shawano School District has reversed a decision that eliminated the dean of students positions for Hillcrest Primary School and Olga Brener Intermediate School in 2022, following the resignation of a behavioral coach. Two years ago, the dean positions were eliminated after the district made moves to cut staff and more to plug up what was called at the time a $2 million deficit for the 2022-23 school year.
County to invest $1.7M in jail HVAC system
A bid of slightly more than $1.7 million to replace the HVAC system at the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department and its jail was accepted by county officials earlier this month. “The original piping and duct work will remain but will be cleaned; all other equipment and systems will be replaced with new,” said Steve Dreher, director of facilities and grounds. “This will include new controls.” Bids were opened at the Nov.

To the editor: I am completely unknown to probably about 99.9% of you. I am a 78-year-old white woman (about to be 79) who has written no books. Nor ever been interviewed by anyone. Mary Katherine Dussling
Mary Katherine Dussling, 69, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024, at UW hospital after a brief illness. Mary was born in Shawano on June 29, 1955, to Bernard and Marie Dussling (nee Piehl). She grew up in Bonduel, the youngest of four children. Mary attended schools in Bonduel, graduating from Bonduel High School in 1973.
Shawano athletes named all-conference
Several Shawano Community High School athletes have been named to various Bay Conference all-conference teams for their efforts fall sports. Boys cross country Sophomore Josiah Kuehl, who competed in the state tournament, was named to the second team. Senior Trevor Schwartz was honorable mention. Girls cross country The entire girls team advanced to the state tournament.
Oconto Falls athletes earn all-NEC honors
Officials with the North Eastern Conference have announced the names of several all-conference teams, and Oconto Falls players earned several honors. Golf Oconto Falls’ Taylor Miller, a senior, earned first team honors.
