Audrey E. Schultz, 79, of Shawano, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, May 16, 2014, at the Shawano Medical Center, where she had been a patient the past two weeks. Audrey was born Aug. 9, 1934, in Abingdon, England, a daughter of the late Leslie and Mary (Coster) Crapper.

Dorothy D. Koeller, 93, formerly of Shawano, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, May 14, 2014, at Lynn Care Center in Front Royal, Va. Dorothy had lived in Virginia for the past two years. The former Dorothy Rambo was born on Feb. 1, 1921, in Milwaukee, a daughter of the late William and Rose (Vieau) Rambo. At an early age, Dorothy moved to Shawano from Milwaukee. On Nov. 26, 1938, she was united in marriage to Alvin Koeller at St.

Ansel L. Malcore, 79, of Shawano, formerly of Green Bay, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at his home. He was born Feb. 25, 1935, on the family farm in Green Bay to the late Gustave “Gus” and Grace (Jadin) Malcore. Ansel was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and its ROTC program. Following high school he joined the armed services and became a corporal in the Marine Corps.

Bishop David L. Ricken of the Diocese of Green Bay will ordain deacon Ryan Starks, a 2006 graduate of Marion High School, to the priesthood at 10 a.m. May 31 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay. Starks’ home parish is St. Mary in Marion.

I’m writing this on Mother’s Day. You might think I shouldn’t have time to be sitting at the computer on this special day. Well, the fact is, we had a lovely brunch with two of our children and grandchildren earlier today, and we visited our other daughter in Readstown on Friday and Saturday.

The Shawano Area Writers presented awards for the first George Putz Memorial Writing Contest to the next generation of writers May 10 at Shawano City Hall. The group presented 38 awards to children in Shawano County who stood out from almost 230 entries received this year. The contest was divided into three grade divisions: 1-4, 5-8 and 9-12.

So far, I have had no urge to dig in the dirt. I did get out one day and puttered around trying to rid the landscaped area of raspberry brush. Once that stuff gets started, it grows fast and gets into everything. I snipped and pulled and got rid of most of it but will have to keep my eye on things and keep trimming. I have given up on the blackberry brush.

This spring’s weather is playing havoc with the field work, and spring storms have caused some damage to our house and barn. As well, some of our daughter’s softball games had to be postponed.
