Oconto Falls High School junior Ben Stoinski and his fellow Panther golfers tied for sixth among 13 teams at the Stu Anderson Invitational on Thursday. Stoinski fired a 45 on the his front nine and 39 on the back nine to combine for a team low 84 at River Island Golf Course. His score was sixth best among the 64 golfers competing. “The first round was a little bit shaky with putting,” said Stoinski, who is the No. 2 golfer for the Panthers.

Copper Culture State Park is gearing up for another season. The Werrebroeck House/Copper Culture Museum will open on Saturday, May 24, and will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. seven days a week through Labor Day weekend. The Suring School Board has selected Kelly Casper as its district superintendent to replace Robert Ray, who will retire at the end of the school year. Before seniors at Gillett High School flip the tassel of their mortarboards to alumni status on Sunday, they walked down memory lane with some of the people who shaped their path in education. The Gillett School District provides a unique opportunity for each graduating senior to offer input to the School Board at small-group meetings.

The Machickanee Advancement Association is seeking volunteers to serve on its board of directors. The association was formed in the 1960s with the goal of providing stewardship of the Machickanee Flowage and surrounding forest. The association has received a grant from ST Paper in Oconto Falls and, together with some county funds, proposes to construct a new handicap-accessible fishing dock.
