Arthur W. Deering passed away in his sleep at his home in Milwaukee on Aug. 26, 2014.
Arthur was born in the town of Underhill on April 4, 1939. He graduated from Gillett High School and later went on to serve in the U.S.
Donald David Anderson, 86, passed away peacefully in his home on Oct. 4, 2014, surrounded by family.
Dad was born June 23, 1928, in Marinette to Oscar Anderson and Beatrice (Cox) Anderson and was the grandson of Swedish immigrants. At an early age, he moved with his family to Livermore Falls, Maine, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1946.
He received a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Maine.
With private woodlands changing ownership an average of every seven years, it could be considered an achievement for a parcel of forest land to remain under one ownership for more than 50 years.
The Wisconsin Woodland Owners Association on Sept. 20 presented Jeanette Perrault with a sign designating her property in the town of Beaver in Marinette County as a certified 50-year tree farm.

Jesse S. Kuranda, 31, Shawano, pleaded no contest to three of 10 counts of failure to support from October 2009 to February 2014 in Oconto. The court dismissed seven counts. On one count, he was sentenced to one year, six months incarceration and two years extended supervision.
The layout of a new law enforcement center will feature a secure, isolated sheriff’s administration area, housing for 175 inmates, adequate parking and an appearance that conforms with the existing courthouse.

The city of Gillett is considering adding a wheel tax to help pay for street repair and maintenance.
The Public Works Committee recently proposed adding a $20 wheel tax to vehicle registrations for city residents.
Residents in the city of Gillett owning 20 or more acres will be allowed bow hunting privileges on their properties, effective last week. The Gillett City Council on Thursday approved a policy providing guidelines for bow hunters hunting on property within the city limits.
“This will only affect one, maybe two, property owners,” said Gillett Mayor Irene Drake.
A Stiles man died from injuries he suffered when an electric leaf blower caught fire Oct. 22, according to the Oconto County Sheriff’s Department.
Russell Holman, 41, was badly burned while using the leaf blower while working in his yard on Wintergreen Road in Stiles, said Investigator Keith Johnson of the Oconto County Sheriff’s Department.
Figures for Women Total Wellness, formerly Figures for Women, at 5876 Main St., Abrams, is under new management. The business with a focus on women’s health is managed by Betsy Markiewicz.
“There is no quick fix to health or weight loss. Every woman has her own story to tell,” said Markiewicz, who has researched health and holistic nutrition for years due to her own health issues.
