A man already serving time for a string of 2014 tavern burglaries has been charged with another felony count of burglary. Stephen M. Childs, 30, was convicted last year of burglarizing the Coachlight in Wescott, the Golf Side Bar in Wescott, Salty’s Saloon in Richmond and Billy’s Bar in Shawano.

The city’s 2015 street reconstruction program is on schedule and running smoothly so far, according to Shawano’s Public Works Department Coordinator Eddie Sheppard. Crews have been at work on Presbyterian and Center streets since last month and should be wrapped up by the end of May. “We’re making good progress,” Sheppard said. The city had planned to do just three streets this year, but bids came in low enough that a fourth was added to the list

Loretta Szpek, 78, of Shawano, passed on to be with her Lord on April 15, 2015. She was born in Chicago to the late Martin and Anna (Klein) Szpek. In 1977, Loretta and her sister, Barbara, moved to Wisconsin. Loretta was a teacher in Chicago and also taught at St. Joseph’s School in Keshena. She and her sister, Barbara, previously owned the Village Lantern in Cecil.

Louis Joseph Dixon began his new journey on April 26, 2015. Born July 15, 1929, in Green Bay to Margaret Dixon. He was preceded in death by brother, Vyron Dixon Sr., sister, Delores Dixon-Small, and mother, Margaret “Irene” Dixon Pyawasit, and grandson, Garrett Shooter. Survived by children, William (Robin) Dixon, Fort Garland, Colorado, Diane Dixon-Shooter, Neopit, Daniel (Elysia) Dixon, Portland, Oregon.

Joel A. Gast, 75, formerly of Shawano, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2015, surrounded by family in San Diego, California. Born on Jan. 21, 1940, Joel A. Gast grew up in Shawano.

Rodney G. Krull, 73, of Mercer, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home. He was born July 22, 1941, to the late John and Luella (Gottschalk) Krull. On Oct. 20, 1962, Rodney was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Peterson. She preceded him in death April 25, 2011. The couple lived in the Nichols area prior to moving to Mercer, where he built his dream house.

Warren G. Sousek, 71, passed away unexpectedly April 25, 2015, at his home in Leopolis. Warren was born on April 21, 1944, in Shawano, the son of the late Alex and Jean (Cerveny) Sousek. He graduated from Marion High School in 1963. On Dec. 6, 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, Judy Schewe. In the spring of 1965, Warren started building a home on a parcel of land from his dad’s farm near Leopolis, where he lived his entire life.
