UTV enables Bonduel firefighters to go off-road

A new utility terrain vehicle acquired by the Bonduel Area Fire Department has already been field-tested four times since it arrived in mid-March. The Polaris Ranger 570 UTV is equipped with a slide-on unit containing a 75-gallon water tank, motor and a storage area. “We have already been out four times this year, and last year we only went out for one grass fire,” Bonduel Fire Chief Robbie Woldt said. She pleaded not guilty to felony charges of possession of narcotic drugs Dec. 21 in Oconto Falls. Superintendent field narrowed to 6
The search for a new superintendent for the Oconto Falls School District has been narrowed from 28 to six candidates. “The board was pretty happy with the number of applicants we had, and out of that we have some pretty high quality candidates,” School Board President Ron Leja said. Of the 28 applicants, nine are past or current superintendents, 10 are principals, 21 are men and four live out of state.

School libraries to share $35.5M
Public school districts throughout the state will share $35.5 million in library aid, which was paid April 27 from the Common School Fund, the only state funding specifically designated for the purchase of materials for school libraries. The five school districts in Oconto County will receive the following amounts: Gillett, $16,650; Lena, $17,929; Oconto, $35,684; Oconto Falls, $77,121; and Suring, $16,912. County Board cuts chairman’s pay
Compensation paid to the board chairman was curtailed for a second straight month by the Oconto County Board. Chairman Lee Rymer will no longer earn a $30 per diem to attend meetings of the committees in which he is not a member, even if the committees request his presence.

County drops insurance benefit for chairman
The County Board on Thursday unanimously agreed to end health and dental insurance coverage for the County Board chairman, effective July 31. The resolution gained unanimous approval Thursday, with Chairman Lee Rymer among those voting yes. Two supervisors were absent. With the change, the county is set to save $1,465 a month: $1,410 for health insurance and $55 for dental.
