There were a number of blank stares last week in a meeting of Northeast Wisconsin superintendents, many of whom used the path around the Falls to gather at the CESA building in Gillett.

Twenty-one students from Gillett High School participated in the Wisconsin High School Forensics Association state event Friday and Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Students who scored a perfect 25 of 25 points received a gold medal and the Critics Choice Award included Joe Karls, Dylan Pratsch, Myranda Pratsch and Tristen Wolske in a group interpretation titled “A Good Deed Goes Wrong”; Faith Sorlie, Elizabeth Kahler, Kalea Britt

An Oconto Falls student has turned a second chance opportunity into a $3,000 scholarship for college. Ben Gordon, a 19-year-old student at Falls Alternative Learning Site, will receive a $3,000 Herb Kohl Initiative Scholarship.

Seven members from the Suring High School FBLA chapter competed in this year’s State Leadership Conference from April 13-14 in La Crosse. The team of Trent Lechleitner, Felicia Wachtendonk and Hailey Thompson placed fourth in the Business Ethics event.

Members of the Suring High School choir, under the direction of Stan Smith, became stars of their own Disney show April 2 when they entertained resort guests at Melody Gardens Theater in the Epcot Park. The group traveled more than 1,400 miles from Suring to the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida to take part in the Disney Performing Arts Program.

Oconto Electric Cooperative presented $1,000 scholarships to 10 high school seniors whose parents are members of OEC.

A team of local students will make and preserve history by competing in the Destination Imagination Global Finals this month. Five Oconto Falls High School students will compete in the Global Finals from May 20-23 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Team W.O.W.

BASEBALL Oconto Falls 4 New London 2 Extra innings were required for the Panthers to earn a victory in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday against New London. With the score tied 2-2 after seven innings, junior Tyler Hagemeier hit a two-out single to score junior catcher Mike Manns and senior Brett Ash.

Oconto Falls High School used two top finishes to claim third place Thursday in the girls portion of the 65th annual Oconto Falls Invitational. Algoma won the meet with 149 points. Senior Kayla Virtues won the shot put, landing a throw at 36 feet, 8 inches, and junior Bailey Wolf claimed the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 33.41 seconds at the state’s oldest invitational, which was held at Memorial Field for the final time.
