Larry Rhode

Larry “Dusty Rhodes” Rhode, 70, a Crivitz resident and formerly of Green Bay, passed away Monday, June 29, 2015, at home. He was born Nov. 10, 1944, in Wabeno to the late Adolph and Vivian Rhode. He attended Gillett High School. Larry was employed by Schneider Transport for 33 years. He enjoyed driving his Harleys, “a 1960s member of the Magnetos,” golfing and spending time with his special friend, Shirley Drafz, and their dog, Henry.
Lila Fay Bintz
Lila Fay Bintz, 85, of Suring, formerly of Grover, passed away on July 3, 2015. Fay is the third daughter of Hilbert and Martha (Ritter) Cota born at Cream City in Oconto County on May 11, 1930, as Lila Fay. Known as Fay all her life, she graduated from Lena High School in 1948. On Nov. 11, 1950, she married Harry L. Bintz at the American Lutheran Church in Oconto.
Wheels quilt chosen for farm, trucking company
Oconto Electric Cooperative installed three quilts for the Barn Quilts of Oconto County project in May. Barn quilt block No. 28 was installed at the Jagiello farm in Lena. The history of the farm dates back to July 5, 1904, when James Borkovec Sr. purchased the original 80 acres from the Oconto Company Corp.
Fine arts series sets 2015-16 lineup
The Oconto Falls Friends of the Arts will present six shows in its 2015-2016 Fine Arts Series. This year marks the 14th season of the Fine Arts Series. The season begins Saturday, Aug. 8, when Missoula Children’s Theatre presents “The Wiz of the West” at noon and 2:30 p.m. at the Falls Area Performing Arts Center. Fifty area children will help to retell the classic story “The Wizard of Oz,” but with a twist … or should we say, twister?
Suring family gathers for reunion
The Charles F. Suring family gathered June 13 for a reunion. Reunions have been held every two years since 1985. Six of the eight children of Charles and Mary (Firgens) Suring attended. Curtis Suring, of Suring, and Bette (Suring) Streu, of Green Bay, were the host families.
Dairy farm adds quilt with golden corners
Three barn quilts were installed in May by Oconto Electric Cooperative for the Barn Quilts of Oconto County project. Quilt block No. 27 was installed at Golden Corners Dairy in Morgan, a third-generation farm purchased by Henry and Caroline Wolf in 1946. John and Bev Wolf bought the farm from John’s parents in 1979. In 2009, Golden Corners Dairy LLC was formed.

Proceedings from July 2 A plea hearing was held for Sterling L. Soman, 20, Wabeno. He pleaded no contest to felony charges of vehicle operator fleeing and eluding an officer and bail jumping March 30 in Maple Valley. Charges of possession of THC (second-plus offense), a forfeiture and two misdemeanors were read in and dismissed by the court. A $10,000 cash bond continues. Sentencing is Aug.
