Shawano’s Red 12U softball team was bullish about winning its Shawano Youth League tournament Sunday. Shawano defeated the New London Bulldogs, 13-4, in the title game. Shawano also defeated the Bulldogs, 3-1, in the opening round Friday and sandwiched victories over Plover, Peshtigo and Green Bay Southwest between the New London encounters. “The girls had a great weekend,” SYL president Dustin Beyer said.

I was sitting on our sunny front porch, soaking in the rays, when I remembered it was July and I’d better get to my computer and finish my column for this month. Personally, we’re doing a few car shows this month, with Bob showing off his pride and joy 1976 Cadillac Brougham d’Elegance hardtop sedan. He bought wide whitewall tires recently so now it truly looks like a Caddy classic. Car shows are fun and relaxing.

There she was, trying to cross the busy, four-lane Highway 15, between Greenville and Appleton, at noon. The vehicles in front of us slowed to a crawl, as did we, and the ones behind us.

Muffy Culhane volunteers for several organizations and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Culhane graduated from Highland Park High School and earned a degree in pharmacy from the University of Minnesota. She worked several places before going to work in Portland, Oregon, where she met her husband, Kevin, who was in medical school.

Lori Swenson is the leader of a Weight Watchers group that meets every Monday in Shawano at the Shawano City-County Library. She has been a leader since 2007. “They were thinking about closing this meeting,” she said. Swenson became the leader of the group in Shawano when it was about to be disbanded due to a lack of members.

The Clintonville Common Council on Tuesday will consider whether to change the city ordinance outlining the number of votes needed to pass a motion before the council. The city’s safety and ordinance committee voted Monday to recommend changing the ordinance, which requires a majority vote of the 10-member council to approve a measure regardless of how many council members are present.
