I was sitting on our sunny front porch, soaking in the rays, when I remembered it was July and I’d better get to my computer and finish my column for this month.
Personally, we’re doing a few car shows this month, with Bob showing off his pride and joy 1976 Cadillac Brougham d’Elegance hardtop sedan. He bought wide whitewall tires recently so now it truly looks like a Caddy classic. Car shows are fun and relaxing. Car buffs stroll around looking, while the owners proudly show off their vehicles and share their stories.
July also means the summer musical at the Mielke Arts Center, of course, and the cast is ready to present “Clue: The Musical” from July 9-12 and 16-19. Tickets are available locally at the Shawano and Clintonville chamber of commerce offices, as well as online at shawanoarts.com. Reservations may be made for general seating by calling 715-526-2525. Performances are at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Adults $12; youth $7.
I’m happy to say that we are again filled up for the Mielke Children’s Theatre Workshop, which takes place from Aug. 10-15 at the Mielke. Pre-registration was necessary this year, and we received our quota easily by the deadline date of July 1. If we receive late registrations, I’m sorry to say, we will have to return the registration fee, as we are already over our maximum number of children. However, we will keep the registration form on file. Next spring, when we contact the parents of children who attended this year, the parents on these files will also be included. The weeklong sessions are held from 6-8:30 p.m., with a performance of “The Wizard of Oz” at 2 p.m. Aug. 15. The public is invited to this show. Again, we thank the Egan Family Foundation for awarding us this grant in support of our workshop.
Don’t forget the Arts and Crafts Fair on Sunday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Mielke Park. If you’d like to be a vendor with original crafts or art, call Cheryl Folkerts at 715-745-6222. The Shawano Folk Festival takes place from Aug. 7-9. Musicians and crafters will be set up in the woods, and concerts will be held Friday and Saturday evenings in the theater.
