Packers’ offense vs. Lions’ defense

At this time a year ago, you likely could not find a unit that was flying higher than Green Bay’s offense.

The finish to the 2023 regular season and 48-point barrage in the postseason gave the Packers a ton of confidence going into the 2024 season.

It was not to be.

The Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions will face off at Lambeau Field on Sept. 7, with Jim Nantz and Tony Romo on the call with CBS carrying the game.

That’s unusual with FOX usually being the NFC partner, but with every team playing to start the season, that is the nature of the beast.

Packers ready for another Super Bowl run

When it comes to the autumn season, one pastime reigns supreme in northeast Wisconsin — football.

Luckily for residents and visitors to the area, Brown County is home to the NFL’s Green Bay Packers. Since 1919, the Green Bay Packers have been a staple in the sporting world and have made way for many to enjoy an autumn or winter Sunday afternoon.

Roster much the same as last year, but changes are significant

After all the dust settled from the preseason and the roster cuts, the Packers looked like its roster was set for the year, until general manager Brian Gutekunst made one of the biggest moves of recent NFL history.

Suring celebrates 95 years honoring Labor Day

Since 1930, the village of Suring has hosted celebrations on Labor Day weekend.

The festivities for the 95th annual event began Aug. 29 and continued through Sept. 1. Much of the fun was based out of Veterans Memorial Park, yet a brat fry, rummage and book sale took place within walking distance of the park.

Children, animals mix well at county fair

Jeff Styczynski is no stranger to the Shawano County Fair.

In fact, this year marked his 50th year of being involved with the Labor Day tradition.

He grew up like other youngsters, showing animals at the fair and even traveling to the Wisconsin State Fair to do so. Styczynski joined fair committees, served nine years on the fair board and is superintendent of the Dairy Show (junior show and open class).

ATV/UTV users have new rules of the road to follow

Shawano County supervisors approved a new ordinance governing the operation of ATVs and UTVs on county roads but not before being admonished by one of their former members.

“It just amazes me that Shawano County can’t play by the rules,” former Supervisor Peter Schmidt told the board Aug. 27.

He said minutes from committee meetings consistently noted safety issues with the vehicles on county roads.
