City attorney charged after shooting mishap

The longtime Oconto city attorney faces charges apparently stemming from an errant bullet that struck a nearby house while he was target practicing, causing minor injuries to two people. Frank M. Calvert, 61, of Oconto, has been charged with two counts of recklessly endangering safety, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred Nov.
County Board vacancies piling up
The number of supervisory districts without a candidate has jumped 50% in the first half of December, Shawano County Clerk Kara Skarlupka said. Vacancies now include seats without a supervisor due to a resignation, redistricting that created four districts without an incumbent and a few more where the incumbents will not seek re-election. This is that time of year where classroom visits bring countless stories of Christmas wish lists and anticipated holiday vacation plans. Our students look forward to that final week before break, the opportunity to have a holiday celebration with their friends here at school, and the hope and excitement that 2024 brings.
BATTLE OF THE BIRDS: Hawks hockey team tamed by Cardinals, Eagles
The Shawano/Bonduel boys hockey team had 27 shots on goal against the Stevens Point Pacelli Cardinals on Dec. 7 but could only come up with one goal in their 5-1 loss. The Cardinals scored once in the first period and twice in the second to give them a 3-0 lead before the Hawks finally scored. At 5:57 in the third period, Gavin Bundt scored with an assist from Karson Stoss to make it 3-1.
Winona ‘Nonie’ Dobratz
Winona “Nonie” Dobratz, 97, Oconto Falls, went into the arms of her Lord early Saturday morning, Dec. 9, 2023, at The Cottages in Oconto Falls. She was born Feb. 17, 1926, in Oconto Falls, the oldest child born to Frank and Victoria (Christensen) Kamke. Nonie was raised in the Town of Spruce where she attended Kelly Brook elementary school and graduated Oconto Falls High School with the class of 1943.
Dolores Pashek
Dolores Pashek, 88, of Lena, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, in Green Bay, surrounded by her family. She was born Jan. 8, 1935, in the Town of Brazeau, daughter of the late Roland and Hazel (Couvillion) Magee and was a graduate of Lena High School. She continued her education at NWTC, where she became an LPN, lending her caring services to skilled nursing facilities, retiring at the age of 75. Dolores married Earl Pashek on Nov.
Jeanna L. Bertram
Jeanna L. Bertram, of Adell, passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023 at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton. She was 45 years old. Jeanna was born April 15, 1978, in Sheboygan. She graduated from Oostburg High School. On Dec. 16, 2000, Jeanna, his Beautiful Bride, was united in marriage with James R. Bertram at First Reformed Church in Oostburg. The couple owned and operated Bertram Communications, where Jeanna served as CFO.

Proceedings of Dec. 5 • Dakota L. King, 45, a former Green Bay man now serving a prison sentence at Racine Correctional Institution, was sentenced to two years in prison, followed by two years of extended supervision, for misdemeanor charges of receiving stolen property and resisting or obstructing an officer, in connection with an incident that occurred Oct. 25, 2021.
