The number of supervisory districts without a candidate has jumped 50% in the first half of December, Shawano County Clerk Kara Skarlupka said.
Vacancies now include seats without a supervisor due to a resignation, redistricting that created four districts without an incumbent and a few more where the incumbents will not seek re-election.
As of Tuesday, there were no candidates officially considering running for one-third of the seats on the board.
District 3 incumbent Milt Marquardt is not seeking another term. The district represents the city of Shawano, Wards 5 and 6.
District 5 Supervisor Sandy Steinke resigned earlier this year. No one has stepped forward to fill that spot, which represents the city of Shawano, Wards 9 and 10.
District 15 Supervisor Grant Staszak earlier announced he won’t seek reelection in the spring. The new District 15 includes the Town of Hartland, Ward 2; Village of Bonduel, Ward 1; Town of Navarino, Ward 2; and Town of Waukechon, Ward 2.
Due to redistricting, new districts with two incumbents now living in them are the 7th District (Jeremy Gretzinger and Michael Stupecky), 18th District (Devin Krizan and Steve Gueths), 19th District (Arlyn Tober and Dick Olson) and 23rd District (Jerry Erdmann and Steven Natzke).
Gueths has announced he will not seek another term, leaving Krizan to run unopposed at this time. Tober has done the same, leaving Olson on his own, although he has not filed any papers yet. Also, Erdman will not run, leaving the seat to Natzke unless someone else enters the race.
David Heideman, who currently represents District 16, is not running for re-election. The district includes the Town of Waukechon, Ward 1; and the Town of Belle Plaine, Wards 3 and 4.
Four districts without an incumbent in 2024 due to redistricting are the 8th District (Town of Wescott, Ward 4), 14th District (Bonduel, Ward 2, and Town of Hartland, Ward 1), 17th District (Town of Richmond, Wards 1 and 2, and Town of Belle Plaine, Ward 1) and 22nd District (Town of Morris, Ward 2; Town of Seneca, Ward 1; Town of Grant, Ward 1; and city of Marion, Ward 4).
All nomination completed papers are due back in the clerk’s office by 5 p.m. Jan. 2, 2024.
The spring election, which will also be the presidential primary, will be held April 2.
