Dorothy Susin Pethke, age 104, of Suring, passed away peacefully on Nov. 29, 2023. She was born on Nov. 23, 1919, to the late Albert and Louise (Duranso) Rahn in the Town of How. Dorothy attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hayes her entire life; she was baptized, attended school, confirmed, married and now will be laid to rest there. Dorothy married Herman Pethke on March 8, 1941.

Kaycee Wayka has been hired as the tribal human resources consultant with the Wisconsin Indigenous Economic Development Corporation (WIEDC), announced Jennifer Peters, the organization’s CEO. “I am pleased to announce that Kaycee has joined WIEDC as our tribal HR consultant,” Peters said.

Rehearsals for the second offering of the Machickanee Players’ 40th season, Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein,” are proceeding. The play, an original script by Greg “Captain” Holbus, deals with themes of alienation, abandonment and becoming how others perceive you. ‘Mary Shelley’s novel is, in my opinion, one of the greatest pieces of literature ever written,” Holbus said.

Abrams Spotlight Productions Inc. (ASPI) will hold auditions Dec. 26-27 for its spring musical, “Oklahoma!” to be presented March 14-17 and 21-24. The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical tells the love story of Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a beautiful farm girl. This musical, directed by Ali Carlson, calls for a cast of 20 actors, age 12 and older.
