Eagles drop 70 points on Niagara in home opener

Suring, Bonduel and Wittenberg-Birnamwood picked up wins in week 2 of the high school football season, while Oconto Falls and Marion/Tigerton came up short.

Not only did the Eagles put 70 points on the board in their 8-player home opener Aug. 27, Suring’s defense also held the Badgers to 12 passing yards and 46 rushing yards, with 20 of them coming on a touchdown run by Owen Dunkes.

Little Falls looking for BABA three-peat

A Labor Day weekend baseball tradition will continue Sept. 6, as Gresham will host Little Falls in the 80th Badger Amateur Baseball Association Grand Championship.

First pitch is set for 2 p.m.

Both teams advanced to the title game after semifinal road wins Aug. 30. Gresham defeated Scandinavia 9-7 in Scandinavia, while Little Falls, the two-time defending Grand Champion, picked up an 8-2 win over Antigo/Polar in Antigo.

Hortonville tops Bonduel to win Dairyland

As good as the Bonduel Broncos were this season in the Dairyland League, the Hortonville Stars were better when it counted the most.

After earning the top seed for the league’s playoffs, the Broncos had home field advantage throughout the postseason and eventually advanced to the Grand Championship game against the Stars on Aug. 30 at Jack Reinke Field.

Titans get back on winning track

The losing streak didn’t last very long.

Less than a week after the Lena/STAA football team opened its season with a 12-6 loss to Laona/Wabeno, the Titans returned to their winning ways Aug. 27 with a 47-6 win over Goodman/Pembine in a matchup of 8-player teams at Lena High School.

3 Wittenberg-Birnamwood girls finish in the top 10

Three Wittenberg-Birnamwood girls finished in the top 10 to lead the Chargers to a second-place finish at Pittsville High School’s cross country meet.

Brielle Rose placed fourth, followed by Nora Bushman in sixth and Gabrielle Timm in ninth. The team tallied 45 points.

Pulaski soccer team shuts out Xavier

Pulaski 2, Xavier 0

The Red Raiders got two second-half goals and took down the Hawks 2-0 in a nonconference matchup in Appleton. After a scoreless first half, Kevin Cruz Lagunes broke the deadlock with a Pulaski goal in the 46th minute. Brayden Puyleart had the assist.

Shawano tennis team loses to Xavier

Xavier 5, Shawano 2

Appleton Xavier (6-2) defeated Shawano (3-12) by a 5-2 score.
