Click It or Ticket enforcement runs through end of the month

Shawano police and hundreds of other law enforcement agencies in Wisconsin are in the midst of their annual enforcement operation targeting unbuckled drivers and passengers. The Click It or Ticket effort started Monday and runs through May 31. “This is the big kickoff of the summer,” Police Chief Mark Kohl said. Shawano PD names 1st detective
The Shawano Police Department’s school liaison officer, Jody Johnson, will switch jobs in July, becoming the first detective on the department’s staff. The city’s police and fire commission on Tuesday unanimously approved Johnson after interviewing her and four of her fellow officers who had applied for the post. Johnson has been with the department for 21 years, the last six of which were as school liaison officer.

Favre playing football again — for charity
Brett Favre will be playing football again in Wisconsin, just not at Lambeau Field. The former Green Bay Packers quarterback will be participating in a charity flag football game the University of Wisconsin’s Camp Randall Stadium on July 19.

A time-honored tradition for journalists around this time of year is to cobble together a compendium of life lessons, guidelines and advice to impart to high school graduates as they embark upon their next steps into the “real world.” Someone once postulated that 80 percent of success in life is a matter of just showing up. School Notes
Bonduel Elementary School The Bonduel Elementary first-graders have been working on Wizard of Oz-themed activities such as characters, setting, vocabulary, math word problems, compare/contrast, fairy tales and graphing. This is in preparation for their production of the mini musical, “The Wizard of Oz.” They have been practicing their songs and parts since the beginning of March and are very excited to show off their hard work.

Kempens honored as residents of month
Woodland Village of Suring has selected Bob and Arlene Kempen as residents of the month for May. Bob was born on Sept. 17, 1921, in Two Rivers and was raised on a farm in Freedom. He joined the U.S. Army and became a welder on submarines and water towers. After leaving the Army, he became a firefighter on the Stockbridge Fire Department. Bob had two sons from a previous marriage when he meet Arlene. Arlene was born on Sept.

Richard P. Okray
Richard P. Okray, 80, of Suring, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2015. Richard was born Sept. 7, 1934, to the late John and Helen Okray. He lived and worked in Milwaukee and then moved to the Suring area in 1996 where he enjoyed his retirement. Oconto Falls to host Memorial Day celebration
Oconto Falls will be bustling this weekend, with the city’s annual Memorial Day weekend celebration. DNR warden hired in Oconto County
A rescue of a blue heron is just one of many new experiences for Oconto County’s new Department of Natural Resources conservation warden. Paul Hartrick and two other DNR officials earlier this year climbed a tree near the Oconto River in Stiles to rescue a blue heron that was hanging upside down, its leg caught in fishing line.
