BOYS BASKETBALL Shawano 54 Menasha 42 Late free throws allowed Shawano to pull away in a Bay Conference battle at home Tuesday night. The Hawks (5-6, 4-1 Bay) were 22 of 29 from the charity stripe. Bonduel pushes tempo on Eagles
The Bonduel High School boys basketball team wanted to get out and push the tempo. When the Bears were able to do that, they found easy baskets that opened up an otherwise-close game for a 76-60 nonconference victory over Menominee Indian on Tuesday. Theater announces ‘With This Ring’ cast
The Machickanee Players announced the cast for their upcoming production of “With This Ring.” The cast is composed of Mike Allard, Chris Weis, David Woosencraft, Russ Johnson, Tammie McCarthy, Kathy Campshure and newcomer Ali Stary. This play, a comedy written and directed by local playwright Kathy Campshure, is the second play of the MP’s 33rd season.

Residents encouraged to test for radon
January is National Radon Action Month, and the Oconto County Health Department urges individuals to test their homes for radon. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, radon is the No. 1 cause of lung cancer among nonsmokers. Bots to battle Saturday at OFHS
Middle and high school students from Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan will compete at the Northeast Wisconsin VEX Robotics Challenge from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at Oconto Falls High School, 210 N. Farm Road. Thirty-five teams will battle each other with robots created from the VEX Robotics Design System. Participants will square off in the game Nothing-But-Net, developed by VEX Robotics Inc.

And last month a health food retailer in Australia posted this notice on its door: As of the first of February, this store will be charging people a $5 fee per person for just looking.

Marvin A. Fredrick
Marvin A. Fredrick, 90, Coleman, passed away with his family by his side on Jan. 6, 2016. He was born on July 26, 1925, in Oconto Falls to Micke and Amelia (Krause) Fredrick. Marvin graduated from Oconto Falls High School in 1943. Following high school he worked on a family farm. Then he worked at Scott Paper. Marvin married the love of his life, Ethel Nasgovitz, on Nov. 4, 1950. They moved to Milwaukee, where he worked at A.O. Smith.

Roger W. Behringer
Roger W. Behringer, 83, of Kelly Brook, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, at his daughter’s home with his loving family by his side. He was born to the late Grover and Jessie (Hammill) Behringer on July 9, 1932, in the town of Spruce. Roger graduated from Oconto Falls High School, where he enjoyed playing football. He married Marylou Christensen on Sept. 2, 1951.

Carol Schroeder
Carol Schroeder, 88, Morgan, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, Jan. 6, 2016, at her home with her family at her side. She and her twin, Robert, were born on Nov. 26, 1927, in Morgan, to Reinhart and Edna (Dobberke) Birr. Carol was a 1945 graduate of Oconto Falls High School. On Oct. 11, 1947, she married Gerhard (Gay) Schroeder in Morgan.
