Carol Schroeder

Carol Schroeder, 88, Morgan, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, Jan. 6, 2016, at her home with her family at her side. She and her twin, Robert, were born on Nov. 26, 1927, in Morgan, to Reinhart and Edna (Dobberke) Birr. Carol was a 1945 graduate of Oconto Falls High School. On Oct. 11, 1947, she married Gerhard (Gay) Schroeder in Morgan. The couple farmed until they retired, at which time she worked at Mosling Plywood and Gillett Canning Factory. She had been an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Morgan, where she belonged to the Ladies Aid and had, at one time, taught Sunday School. Carol was a true animal lover. She loved her two pet cats, Tom and Lightning, who both lived long and spoiled lives. Survivors include four children, David (Cynthia) Schroeder, Antigo, Gary (Mary) Schroeder, Morgan, Nancy (Dave) Lueptow, Morgan, and Karen (Dave) Shepherd, Social Circle, Georgia; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Birr, Morgan, and LaDonna Birr, Pulaski; and special neighbors, Verna Peterson and Julius and Shirley Kaczmarowski. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerhard, on Jan. 19, 2004; two brothers: Nathan, and her twin, Dr. Robert Birr; one sister, Lois (Harvey) Rehn; and Gerhard’s family: Elmer (Alma) Seelow, Jeff (Esther) Vandermoss and Laura Schroeder. Friends called at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 3374 County Road C (Morgan), Oconto Falls, from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10. The funeral service was celebrated at 3 p.m. Sunday at the church, with Pastor Paul Heykes officiating. Burial took place in the Town of Morgan Cemetery.
