Mike and Sandra Osborne volunteer at the Shawano Area Food Pantry and Resource Center, Salvation Army and Mothers Of Pre-Schoolers (MOPS) at Hope Community Church. Sandra was born in Green Bay and graduated from Pulaski High School. She held various jobs before meeting and marrying Mike.
Guild elects officers, prepares for 2016 season
Hopefully 2016 will bring good health, happy times and the opportunity to accomplish something that will help others. If you get that chance, don’t hesitate. Your good deed will benefit you in a way you hadn’t expected! Elections were held for The Box in the Wood Theatre Guild on Monday, Jan. 4, at our meeting at the Mielke Arts Center. Board members whose terms were up were Nathaniel Madsen, Mary Madsen and the late Joyous Bowen.
Writer stumbles from darkness, but finds the light
I have often heard the phrase, “It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness,” and it has been in my thoughts since the days have become shorter. A minor Google search brought up that fact that it was something that JFK said, but it also offered other people and origins. It doesn’t really matter to me who said it, or what it referred to.
School Notes
Shawano School District There will be no school on Monday. Shawano Community High School The Shawano Community High School hockey team is selling raffle tickets for an autographed Aaron Rodgers jersey. The jersey is professionally framed in a matted shadow box. Tickets are available at the Crawford Center concessions stand or from any SCHS hockey family members. Tickets are $5 each or three for $10; only 2,000 tickets will be sold.
Marlene J. Kroenke
Marlene J. Kroenke, 75, of Shawano, passed away on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 14, 2016, in Green Bay surrounded by her loving family. Marlene was born July 21, 1940. in Marion, daughter of the late Reinhold and Irma (Conradt) Lindow. She attended country schools and later Marion High School, graduating in 1958. Following school she worked at the Hansen Glove Factory for several months. On Nov. 22, 1958, she was united in marriage to Larry L.
Rev. Lawrence K. Hamann
The Rev. Lawrence K. Hamann, 96, of Belle Plaine, passed away on Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, in Shawano. Lawrence was born on Jan. 3, 1920, in the town of Richmond to the late Emil and Alvina (Hoffmier) Hamann. On Dec. 22, 1943, he was united in marriage to Vivian Carter in Shawano. Vivian preceded him in death on Nov. 1, 2009. Lawrence was the pastor of Spoken Word Church. Rev.
Marie E. Frank
Marie E. Frank, 93, of Gillett, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016. Marie was born on July 11, 1922, in the town of Underhill to the late Paul and Helena (Wilke) Dicke. After graduating from Gillett High School she was employed by the telephone company in Milwaukee. On Dec. 26, 1945, Marie was united in marriage to George Frank in Milwaukee and moved to his family dairy farm in the town of Underhill, where they farmed until 1977.

Junior Achievement reaching out to area businesses
Junior Achievement of the Wolf River District’s small business campaign is receiving strong support from the business community. The group, which served almost 3,000 students last year, sent letters to area businesses last month with information on the 2014-15 school year’s successes and a request to support similar programs and new ventures this school year.
