Hopefully 2016 will bring good health, happy times and the opportunity to accomplish something that will help others. If you get that chance, don’t hesitate. Your good deed will benefit you in a way you hadn’t expected!
Elections were held for The Box in the Wood Theatre Guild on Monday, Jan. 4, at our meeting at the Mielke Arts Center. Board members whose terms were up were Nathaniel Madsen, Mary Madsen and the late Joyous Bowen. Nathaniel was re-elected to the board, and I was elected to take Joyous’s seat for the Class of 2018.
Brandon Byng resigned from the board (Class of 2016) and new member Rusty Mitchell agreed to take over his seat until the November 2016 elections. Elections for president and secretary took place, and Amy Steenbock was re-elected as secretary. Mary Madsen stepped down from president role and now takes the 10th board member position as past president. Denise Riley, current vice president, was elected president. I was elected vice president. Germaine Schwaller then was elected to take Mary’s former board position for the Class of 2018.
Taking a look at some of the events at the Mielke Arts Center in 2016, our first event will be “Rock ‘n Roll Jukebox” presented by Daddy D Productions on Friday, March 18, at 7 p.m. Admission will be $20 for general seating. Ticket reservations may be made by calling 715-526-2525. Tickets will be available at the door as well as at outlets to be announced soon.
Opening on April 21 will be the classic comedy “Arsenic and Old Lace,” directed by Nathaniel Madsen. The show will run the 21st through the 24th and then the next weekend, April 28, 29, 30 and May 1. Auditions were held earlier this week at the theater, but the cast has not been finalized as of this date. Call Nathaniel at 715-853-6934.
We are excited to be offering the popular musical “Annie” for our summer presentation. There will be two new directors at the Mielke for this show, Char Steuwer and Susan Kluge. Char and Susan have much experience in directing the children’s productions for the Wolf River Homeschoolers group. We are extremely pleased to have them join us as Box in the Wood Theatre Guild directors. This production will also enable the kids who have been attending our children’s theater workshop to use what they have learned and audition for this show. Audition dates will be announced later this spring.
Rounding off our season will be our fall comedy, “Running Mates,” directed by Mary Madsen. More details later.
We’re still working on funding for our new marquee. Can you help? Send donation to SCAC, Marquee Fund, P.O. Box 213, Shawano, WI 54166.
See you at the theater!
