Few people attending SCHS open swim

The director of Shawano Community Education does not think many people will miss the open swimming and weight room hours cancelled recently by the School Board. “It is not like we have a whole lot of people coming and we are shutting the doors,” Sandra Kane said. New London woman injured in accident
A New London woman suffered nonlife-threatening injuries Thursday when she failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a semi trailer in Clintonville. Debra Morien, 50, needed to be extricated from her sport utility vehicle following the accident at East Green Tree Road and Industrial Avenue about 9:30 a.m. Thursday. She was transported to New London Hospital.

Dog park discussion rekindled
The possibility of having a dog park somewhere in the Shawano area could be rekindled after the issue came up during a joint meeting this week between city and county officials. Sandy Steinke, who sits on both the Common Council and the County Board, brought up the issue during a presentation on the city park system.

Area man sentenced in bath salts case
A Birnamwood man accused of trafficking in bath salts was ordered Friday to serve three years in prison for multiple drug offenses in a case that was the first of its kind in Shawano County. Jessie L.

Sonja J. Stewart
Sonja J. Stewart, 75, of Tigerton, passed away July 18, 2014, after a courageous battle with gastric cancer and end-stage liver disease. She was able to remain at home, cared for by her children, till the time of her death. Sonja was born at home in the town of Fairbanks, Shawano County, on Jan. 27, 1939, the youngest of twin girls born to the late Charles and Gertrude (Bernarde) Butts. Each of the twins weighed over 7 pounds at birth.
